Rosie Thomas

As soon as I have some money to spend I want to buy Rosie Thomas' CD These Friends of Mine. I think Much Farther To Go is such a pretty song. Some of the lyrics:

I have much farther to go
Everything is new and so unpredictable
I should just click my heels together and go home
But I'm not sure where that is anymore

Oh how I wish I could go back in time
To the night when I heard my mother cry
She held me in her arms
And we talked for some time
And I sang a song her mother sang to her

It goes, something about paper dolls and what men preffered
Something about the cross and how her Jesus died for her
Something about love and how it's worth fighting for
I wonder, does love like that exist anymore?

And I, I have much farther to go
And I, I'm so confused I know
I should just click my heels together and go home
But I lost my way
When I lost you

A real update soon... I promise...

Fairy Tales

Today at my aunt's house I read many fairy tales. When one sits down and reads (almost) a whole book of Grimm's fairy tales, there is a lot of repetition involved. For instance:

- They seem to like to turn people into birds, don't they? Especially large groups of brothers, whose sister must save them by not speaking for a number of years.

- There certainly are a lot of witches or beasts or villains who ask for a bride or a child in exchange for mercy or riches. I'm glad I haven't run across any.

- WHAT'S WITH THIS YOUNGEST CHILD THING!?!?! We Eldest Children can't help that we're born first! Why are the youngest - usually either the youngest daughter of 3, 6, 7, or 12 daughters- nearly always the prettiest, kindest, and sweetest of the lot? And why is the youngest son (again, usually of 3, 6, 7, or 12 brothers) nearly always the luckiest, the humblest, the bravest? Come on! There are a lot of good morals in fairy tales, such as "Share what you have and a weird dwarf guy won't cause you to cut your arm off" and "Use your brains and the witch won't kill you," and "Fight the dragon and you'll win the princess," but "Be the youngest, and fortune will smile upon you"!?

I feel very discouraged. Is there no hope for me? There are very few exceptions, and it's kind of depressing me. ;) What on earth did the Grimm brothers have against older daughters and sons? All fairy tale, legend, and myth writers, for that matter. I think we older siblings need a club, or something.

But even so: I. LOVE. FAIRY TALES. Now that I'm in a fairy tale mood I'm going to head over to SurLaLune Fairy Tales and see if they have an annotated version for any of the good 'uns I read today. : )

I've Decided

Okay...I've decided. *deep breath* ;) My personal blog is going to be on Blogger. No! Wait! Wordpress is all fancy now... Bah! A curse upon all blogging websites. *sigh*

I guess I'll stick with Blogger. More people I know are here... but I will be using Wordpress again. I like it very much.

I'm Meeeeelting!

Wow. I just realized that I said I don't like most of Blogger's templates TWICE in my last post... on accident.

I'm losing it. LOSING IT, I tell you.

Will post something meaningful tomorrow...maybe.

New Blog: Books & Windows

I've created a new blog for book reviews and my thoughts on books, as well as book-related quotes and 'most anything about books. Sounds heavenly, doesn't it? ;) 'Tis very plain, because I don't like most of Blogger's templates... Anyways, I present to you:
Books & Windows

I'm afraid the first review is very poor. Perhaps with practice I'll improve. :) And I know the layout is boring and the same as this blog, but I don't like most of Blogger's layouts.

Both Sides Now

My parents have been trying to learn Both Sides now together - my dad on the guitar and my mom singing.

Both Sides Now was originally written and performed by Joni Mitchell, but several artists since then have done covers of it. I bought Hayley Westenra's version online a couple months ago, and showed it to my parents, which inspired my dad to learn it on guitar.

It's really a beautiful song. Here are the lyrics, and Hayley Westenra's lovely video. Listen to Joni Mitchell's version, too, if you can.

Bows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons evrywhere
Ive looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on evryone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
Ive looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its cloud illusions; I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
Ive looked at love that way

But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Dont give yourself away

Ive looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions; I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
Ive looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living ev'ry day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose, and still somehow
It's life's illusions; I recall
I really don't know life at all

I feel like some spell is broken every time the song ends...

A Warning

Some of you may have noticed that I have changed my layout again. Yes. That's because I'm a wishy-washy nitwit. And very picky.

Tomorrow is April 1st - April Fool's Day. I thought it would be a decent thing to warn you. Don't worry: I'm not thinking of pulling any pranks this year (unless my mother and I come up with something brilliant to tell my dad), but I'd just like you all to be careful, just in case. I know from experience that it's not a good thing to forget the date on April 1st.

Of course, being fooled is half the fun.

Now, NarniaWeb.com's April Fool Archive.
